Dr. Anupam Pal

  Professionally I am an assistant professor at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. I have been shooting since 1990 when I got my first SLR camera, a Zenith 12XP. I had my first lesson in photography at the Photography Club in Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Since then I have tried to learn photography with an open mind through reading and analyzing works by the experts. So my photography is not limited to any particular theme, neither do I limit myself on the media. I shoot both film and digital because of their unique advantages.

  1. Awarded Nikon Better Photography Photographer of the Year 2008.
  2. First prize winner in "Landscapes and Cityscapes" and Second prize winner in "Natural Patterns" in the Nikon Better Photography Photographer of the Year 2008 competition.
  3. Category winner in "Altered Images" in Smithsonian Magazine 5th Annual Contest , 2008.
  4. 1st prize winner in Digital Art category in Photo and Video Contest on Images of Health and Disability 2006-2007 organized by World Health Organization (WHO) with Special Theme "Health and Environment".
  5. 2nd prize winner in Imaging Resources Photo's of the Day Contest, January, 2007.
  6. Grand prize winner in "Absolut Click" photo contest, 2005 by American Photo magazine, Nikon and AbsolutTM.
  7. Photographer of the year 2005 and 2006 by the School of Photography.
  8. Grand prize winner in Digital Photography category in Ritzcamera.com "Big Print Photo Contest - Capture your World."
  9. Grand prize winners in Apogee Photo Magazines bi-monthly photo contest on the themes "Mothers", July 2005 and "What's in Your Kitchen, March 2006".
